Earlier this morning, the James Beard Foundation announced the finalists for this year’s awards, with Jamie Bissonnette (Toro, Coppa), Joanne Chang (Flour, Myers + Chang), and Barry Maiden (Hungry Mother) snagging nods for Best Chef: Northeast, an honor won in years past by chefs like Jody Adams, Ken Oringer, Tony Maws, and most recently, Tim Cushman (who won last year for O Ya).

(NECN) - TV Diner sent an anonymous reviewer to the South End for lots of Asian options at Myers and Chang. The eatery features a hip, upbeat atmosphere and serves Asian fusion cuisine. Watch the above video to see how Myers and Change ranked with our reviewer.

In the South End, there are tons of fantastic bistros offering crisp glasses of wine and a charcuterie board to match. But when we want fireworks, we head to this funky diner, where quasi-traditional Asian dishes like tea-smoked spareribs and fried rice coexist with why-hasn’t-anyone-thought-of-this-before eats like Korean barbecue sloppy joes and the (brunch only) fried-egg-and-soy-glazed-bacon banh mi. And unfortunately for our waistline, we frequently find ourselves face down in (usually two) orders of Joanne Chang’s crazy-juicy pork-and-chive dumplings.

As the summer months come to a close, I hope you seize every opportunity to get out of work early and enjoy the warm weather while it’s still here. If you’re from Boston, or you just moved here, winter can be a struggle, and you might not get out and explore the food and drink options all around your neighborhood.
